How fun! The people who put together the Dutch version of my book sent the above press clipping from a magazine called 101 woonideeën, which they said is comparable to Blueprint in the US. Groovy!

Subversive cross stitcher Julia sent in this photo of her delicious buttercream creation with this note:

"I am the Julia who you quoted on the book page of your website who did a lot of stitching when I quit smoking. I have since been trying my hand at other crafts. Jewelry and baking, for example. I took inspiration from Subversive Cross Stitch for a birthday cake I made for my cousin last year. It's not the prettiest cake ever but that homemade chocolate buttercream frosting was pretty amazing. Besides, making all of those little fucking flowers is going to give me carpal tunnel so I got lazy after awhile. The cake was a huge hit and I thought that you would get a kick out of it so I attached a photo."

Dutch version of the Subversive Cross Stitch book, coming out in November 2009. Explanation of the title: "The Dutch title Achterlijke gladiool, literally translated: Retarded Gladiolus, is a Dutch expression for an extremely stupid person." I can't believe it. I hope I can get some copies to share!

p.s. Sorry I'm not posting as much here lately. I'll be back, but in the meantime, there's always more frequent updates happening on the Subversive Facebook page. I hope you'll join me there!

Someone wrote the other day and asked if this site was still active since I hadn't posted on my blog for so long. Oops. Sorry, I've been distracted with life and with the upcoming release of the Kitty Wigs book (see post below) and more orders here than usual... but I am alive and well!

This photo just made it to the "Blog" of "Unnecessary" Quotation Marks, which I LOVE.

Also, I'll be crafting a monthly column for Craft Magazine beginning in July, so I'll try to post about that here with a link soon. Thanks for your patience!

It's the Kitty Wig book! Glamourpuss: The Enchanting World of Kitty Wigs!

This is my other gig -- Kitty Wigs! And now we have a book! From the fine folks at Chronicle Books! A gorgeous hardcover book with over 50 photos of kitties in wigs with quotes of what's going on in their snarky little heads (on the cover: "I want a pony!")

Available for pre-order on Amazon (link above), or you can probably get it earlier through the Kitty Wigs website by signing up for the enewsletter. We are psyched -- it really looks great thanks to the incredible photography of Jill Johnson and the fantastic direction of Chronicle.

Look for all kind of fun on the website when it re-launches in July. Bonus: The foreword of this book was written by Dooce!

I finally finished my Obama cross stitch -- and I had to scrape to find an hour here and there, so don't give up! You will finish it! It's so cool to look at, I'm so glad it's done!! The Free Obama pattern with every purchase offer still stands -- until at least the end of this year.

The Glorious Ray Fenwick just finished his artist-in-residence at Pantry Press, a cool letterpress shop in Toronto.
